Jim and Janet Chambers started upholstering and refinishing their own items over 40 years ago on their back porch in order to save some money.
It grew from there to a full-time business located on Pierce St. with Jim doing the upholstering and refinishing. Janet soon joined Jim in the business and took on the sewing and public relations.
In 1984, The Attic changed locations, moving to a building just in front of it’s current location at 600 W. Jackson Street. The Business continued to grow and Janet soon expanded the business to include custom draperies.
After 6 years in that location, the State of Illinois expanded Route 136 (Jackson Street). The Attic once again changed locations, moving this time to it’s current building, still at 600 W. Jackson.
The Attic now has 6 employees and includes Quilts, Handbags, Heritage Lace, and Braided Rugs while still offering complete furniture restoration.
